Can I apply for unemployment while on non work related medical leave?

Generally no. When getting unemployment one of the terms is that you are willing to work.

I think this would fall under disability

Since you are the one leaving I believe that would not allow you to claim unemployment. i would apply for medical disability.

I would apply for disability instead. It’s highly unlikely unemployment will pay for this type of leave.
