Good question. My son was laid off as a general manager at his last job and he’s been laid off for about 2 months now. He found a part time job and starts soon as we want to know the same.

I would check with your local unemployment office but you should be able to work part time. You have to report it – unemployment would just be a supplement to your part time job income.

There’s a place on the form where you declare any work you did during the period. You could still receive the benefits but they could be less for the period where you earned income.

what happens when an employer states that you’ve turned down a job? If you have a permanent part-time job and a temp agency offers you a job not knowing how long it would last, do you take the temp position?

I have a friend that is 72 yrs. old. He is working a full time job, and he is drawing social security, if he looses his full time job is he entitled to Un-employment benefits.

Susan, how did you find out which school would be approved by the unemployment office?

I’ve been laid off for three months. Today I found a part time job, but it only pays $8.75 an hour and I have to use my own vehicle and buy my own gas, no mileage. If I take it will I loose my Missouri unemployment benefits?

I am working in retail sales part time. I am also supporting my husband who is a seasonal self-employer with no unemployment and two children. My hours average less then last year at this time. When is it consider underemployment in Michigan?

I am hoping somebody can help me with this!

I was fired from my job of two years that I loved last summer, and I’m now collecting unemployment from them. I took on a part time job in a fast food restaurant in September of last year, hoping that I could do that temporarily while looking for something else with slightly better pay. I just needed the extra money, and I still do.

However, things are not as they seem there. It took them a whole month after they hired me in to actually get me started, and ever since I have been there I have not been given more than five hours a week the whole time I have worked there. (They actually docked me down to three hours a week starting last month after the first of the year.) The job itself is also horrible, and the stress they are causing me is not even worth it. (I have actually lost sleep over the whole thing.) There are days when I come home in tears over it. I have asked about getting more hours, and the response I got from the manager is that I’m not competent enough to be able to handle more hours, when I know that’s not true. I worked for a fast food restaurant for six years throughout high school and college, and never once did I have any problems not being “competent” enough for them. It’s just that I was never trained for what I’m doing right now. I was basically thrown in there and they said “Here. Do it.”, leaving me to figure everything out for myself.

So my question is does anybody here know if I have to keep this job in order to be able to keep drawing my unemployment? It’s getting ridiculous because I’m only working not even one full day a week and it’s starting to cost me more to come to work than I’m making at work! By the time I drive there and drive back, I’ve spent almost everything I’ve made working on gas. I picked up my most recent paycheck along with my W2s today, and my W2s are a joke! Federal didn’t take anything out because there wasn’t enough there for them to take anything out, and the state collected a whole whopping $3.39 from me for last year.

For the record, I live and work in Michigan.

Help, please!!!!

My hours have been reduced from 40 to 24 per week. Do I qualify for unemployment benefits for the 16 hours I will lose each week?
