Most states allow this as long as school doesn't interfere with you looking for a full time job.

Good Question. In California:
The California Unemployment Insurance Code has no provisions expressly rendering students, as such, unavailable for work. However, an inference of unavailability for work does arise when a claimant is attending school during hours customarily worked in business and industry. -

Correct - i got to school at night but I still collect unemployment as long as I'm still actively looking for work.

you can go to school and collect unemployment because going to school is considered job training. in georgia, you have to physically turn in an unemployment certification with the teacher and/or advisor's signature.

I'm currently collecting unemployment in CA. I'm an unemployed teacher since last year (June 2009). It is extremely unlikely that I will be offered full-time work in the near future. Here is my dilema . . . I want to take a 3 week training course in the medical field that is offtered during the day to change career paths. The only work I MIGHT be offered is substitute teaching. I cannot afford to jeopardize my unemployment though. Any thoughts?

I live in Florida and lost my job that I was with for 10 yrs. Actually, relocated here to Florida with the company from NY. I had medical complications then was laid off. I have been looking for work but I seem to get turned down a lot due to not finishing college. So I want to go back to school at night while continuing looking for work during the day. Would they cut my unemployment?

I am currently in a part time nursing program wich is Saturday 8:30am to 5:00pm Sunday 6:45am to 3:15pm and Mondays 6:00pm to 10pm. My problem is I was fired from my curent Monday-Friday 9 to 5 job. I am not sure if I would qualify for unemployment. I am getting conflicting answers from everyone. Can any one help? I cant just quit my Nursing program I will be graduating in November.
