Any person unemployed in the State of Florida, is eligible to at least apply for benefits. Whether you are eligible for benefits, will be determined by how long you worked at a particular job, and why you are unemployed.
On the first determination, you must have worked and earned wages for four quarters of the previous five quarters. You have to have had at least $3,400 earnings for that period. Even if you were fired from your job, you may still be eligible for benefits, depending on the reasoning behind the judgement.
There are two ways to apply for Florida Unemployment Benefits. One is by using their online site, the other being to call in your application. If you don't have Internet access, you can still apply online by stopping by a One Stop Job Center office, at a nearby location.
Usually within a week to ten days after filing , you will hear whether or not you earned enough to qualify for unemployment benefits. If you are approved, you will receive a check. If you are denied, the reason for the denial will be included in the letter you receive.
If approved, You will most normally receive your first check in three to four weeks.
To keep receiving your benefits, you must actively seek employment, and prove that you are able to work. You must prove this every two weeks, which is when you also have to apply for the next check.
Your benefits will stop if you quit a job, don't seek work while receiving benefits, or you aren't able to work for any reason.
