Six months is the norm but you may be apply for an extension for 9 months of benefits.

usually about 6 months over a one year period. i heard some states offer an extension.

Depends what state you are in - I'm in California and its 6 months, but you can get it extended for another 6 months if you can prove you've actively been looking for work.

Over here in NJ the normal limit is 26 weeks but there is currently an extension of 13 weeks!

CA is 18 months with extensions I hope. Or else it's 12 months. Or else its 8 months. It depends on if you qualify for all the extensions. Most people do. If you make a LOT you might not qualify for the extensions.

Those two (2) people from NJ are right!!, you can collect Unemployemnt at to two years or more depending on everyone situation like attending school for your GED if you did not finish! Also, Advance courses to better your skills or taking a brand new skills and most important the new technology in software 2007 which is very useful everywhere even at home if you can affort it. I'm one of them good luck.

If the Employment Security Commission finds out you did not take that job that was offered to you, you will lose your benefits.

For those already on unemployment: You ALL need to contact your state's Unemployment.commission or whatever place you contacted to get the unemployment in the first place. Each state is different so they would know the correct answer.

Those not on unemployment: Your state probably has an Employment/Unemployment Office of some type and that is who you should contact. Usually some .gov website.

I'm in California first time every unemployed. I have been receiving my benefits since Nov 2009 with an expired date of Nov 2010. Will I qualify for an extension? If so will it be the same amount I was getting before or lower?

If I apply for California UI in October 2010; How many weeks am I eligible for? Being that November 30th 2010 is some cut off date...does that mean if in 26 weeks, at approximately March 10th 2011 and I am still unemployed...I will not be on any "extension" programs or qualify for them by filing in Oct. 2010?

My job was terminated on July 19, 2010 and I have been collecting unemployment benefits
since then. I'm now sure how long the benefits are for and if I'm eligable for an extension
since I still have not been able to get a job. I was told that there was an extension granted
