My husband works full-time and is about as secure at his job as anybody can be in this economy. I’ve been working at Target part-time for the last two and half years and the extra money has been a godsend, but things at home are a mess.
The kids need me to be there more, the house is always in chaos and the finances aren’t being paid attention to enough. On one hand I love working because of the money, but on the other hand I hate it because it takes so much of my time away that could be spent at home making things work there. My husband thinks we need the extra money, and we’re both afraid that is I leave it will be impossible to find another part-time job in this recession if we decide it’s better after all that we do need me to work. I want to leave my job but I am curious about something.
Do you happen to know if I’ve worked there for two and half years and quit if I can still collect unemployment? I’m not sure if you have to be laid off or fired to get unemployment and figured you guys would know. Thanks in advance for the information.

Debbie,
In most states if you quit you are automatically disqualified for receiving unemployment benefits. There are some exceptions like working in a hostile environment etc.
But spending more time in your home life will most likely not result in a winning claim.
With the economy as is I would suggest staying at your job and try to rework things at home so you can still keep the income.
I wish you good luck either way.
Alex
