In hard economic times, people want to know what are the recession proof jobs. There are some jobs that will always thrive, no matter what, and others that are available now due to circumstances totally unrelated to the economy. For example, healthcare and medical jobs have an excellent outlook for the next decade or longer, due to an aging population that will need a steadily increasing amount of medical attention, and the double effect of the aging population of medical professionals who are retiring from current medical jobs. Jobs are plentiful for trained medical workers, including medical assistants, home health aides, physical therapists, technicians, physicians and nurses, and their support staff of assistants and records keepers.
Other jobs are always in demand, like jobs that require someone who knows how to fix things, like automobiles. As people try to keep what machinery they currently own running longer, repair is the obvious solution. Other areas that are strong in hard times are those related to recycling and reuse, such as second hand stores, and discount stores. Regular needs are always in demand, such as heating and air conditioning, food service and supply, and to some degree, even entertainment as people try to forget their hard times.
You can make a short list of recession proof jobs. It would include the above mentioned medical jobs, and add to that jobs the federal government will create to help the situation. Technology, in particular clean or eco-friendly technology, will grow as an alternative to fossil fuels that pollute and are in reduced availability at higher costs. Sales and marketing is more necessary than ever in hard times.
Keeping business going and thriving is the job that falls to the administrative assistants, and the financial wizards, bookkeepers, tax specialists, and accountants. Business professionals and those with international skills will be in demand as businesses try to reach farther to obtain sales and new markets. Security is another area that will find an increasing demand, as crime becomes more evident during hard financial times.
New technology and computer technology are good areas in which to seek new jobs with growth potential. Software development, web designers, information technology, and computer networking specialists are in demand. And, as people move from a poor economic climate in one state to another with better prospects, teachers will find demand in the growth areas. Teaching is normally a steady career, but the areas for work will fluctuate with the population movement. Finally, even Donald Trump mentioned in a recent cable television appearance that hard times are a great time for the entrepreneur to develop and grow a business.
Sometimes the best recession proof job is that of making your attitude a positive attitude. Always plan, and have a plan “B” and “C” handy for those unexpected bumps in the economy that always pop up. Get busy in advance of hard times, and retrain in one of the careers predicted to be in demand, rather than just waiting for the pink slip.
